Myo (muscle) Pathy (abnormality/disorder). Alcoholic myopathy is weakening or breaking down of skeletal muscles due to excessive consumption of alcohol. This can occur either acutely (in the case of binge drinking or withdrawal from alcohol) or after long-term chronic alcohol abuse.
