noun. a base element that is in existence inside the nucleotides and nucleic acids of living bodies- it is seen in particular in nuclei. Adenine is 1 of the 4 bases in deoxyribonucleic acid and messenger ribonucleic acid that comprise the aspects of the hereditary code.
