noun. 1. the sound of one’s voice and pronunciation of dialect that identifies them as being part of a specific geographic locale, societal rank, or aboriginal language. 2. grammatical emphasis placed on one portion of a word. 3. when an author or speaker denotes emphasis upon specific words to make them sound more relevant to the discussion or topic at hand.
